Next step here we come

So, update…. Scan in brain has showed some lesions but how many and if they are different is to be discussed on Tues with GP… she’s organising an appt with neurologist and a lumbar puncture which apparently determine what type of lesions and at what stage it’s at…. That may make more sense to you guys that jt does me…. What’s the story with different types of lesions? I don’t understand
@LisaJ45

Lesions are active inflammation seen on a mri in the brain which would be one of the markers to diagnose ms . Do u have symptoms of anything ? The lumbar is another way to diagnose as it looks for inflammation in the spinal fluid / cord . They have to go off a criteria to diagnose called the McDonald’s criteria . If they find lesions and they are of the correct shape and formation usually in the peri ventricular matter and are shaped what they call “ white picket fence formation or dawsons fingers “ that would suggest a ms diagnosis . The McDonald criteria has to go off “ lesions in space & time “ so different locations that’s possibly popped up between 2 consecutive MRI’s and in time and in 2 specific places . I was diagnosed with a mri and a VEP as I lost partial vision in one eye which turned out to be optic neuritis . I didn’t need a lumbar as they had all they needed as my first mri was clear , the eye episode a year later led to another mri they compared to the first and 2 new lesions were seen . This is the space and time thing . Going from what they find will determine the “type “ you have . Most people start off with RRMS . Hope all that made sense

@LisaJ45 erm… a bit haha, a lot to take in…. Symptom wise, out of the 15 listed on the MS website, I am positive on 12 of them. Not in a maybe, possibly kind of scenario but a “100%, without a doubt” scenario. I was born without my right leg due to spina bifida and my right hip is crumbling so I’ve had a fair bit of grief from that for years , but spasms, twitches, fatigue (I also diagnosed with hypersomnia), balance, hot n cold, depression and anxiety have been increasing over past 10 yrs but previous investigations hadn’t shown any lesions or problems after a spinal tap. I presume the space and time thing will be looked at with neurology (awaiting another appt). I don’t have visual issues apart from general short sightedness and no problems swallowing. Can I please ask:- what is VEP ?
