As a former home health aid who has taken care of an MS patient I think at a certain stage in the progression of the disease, a catheter is not only a good idea but it gives the patient back some quality of life and some dignity. Yes they have to be changed and kept clean to prevent infections but that is a small price to pay for the freedom it gives you when being out in public or having family and friends drop by. Before they put my patient on a catheter he was constantly wet sometimes from his chest down. His family didn't visit and he couldn't go anywhere. Going to appointments was always a stressful because we never had enough diapers to keep him dry. Plus being confined to a wheelchair made changing him in public impossible. I think if I get in the hat situation I would ask about a catheter for myself. It saved us a lot of stress and him a lot of embarrassment.
Jamie , your health first, it will give you peace, at least you won’t have to pee on yourself, it will give you quality of life and decency.
