Panicking about car insurance

So, my medical license expired in September and my new license hasn't arrived yet (almost 5 months later!) Legally, I can still drive under section 88 so I've been fine so far. I'm starting to panic because my insurance runs out in April and if I don't get a license, I won't be able to renew it. I can't get to work without my car - what will I do?!

My new license arrived around 5 weeks after my old one run out, I would phone the dvla medical licence. They were marvellous with me. Their number is 0300- 790- 6806

My personal interpretation of section 88 is that it temporarily extends whatever license you had before it expired until the DVLA have made a decision or given you a new one thus if it were me I would tell insurance companies that I have got the same licence as I told them this time last year.
