Issues with Bladder Control
I’ve found it can sometimes be hard to go to the toilet as the muscles don’t push or contract.
Sadly yesterday I had to get my mum to call an ambulance when she arrived home from shopping, as I desperately needed to go, but was not able to despite my bowels being full and in pain.
The ambulance crew carried me out of the house in a wheelchair, then drove me circa 18 miles to Kent & Canterbury Hospital which is the nearest unit where they treat this condition.
They had to put a catheter up the urinary tract to drain my bowel, and extracted 2 bags totalling 1.7 litres of urine.
They then had to make sure my prostate was undamaged.
They did arrange for me to have a pack to take home, which included a day and bag to keep draining.
Thankfully it is just temporary, but I have a catheter inserted up the urethra to allow constant drainage into a bag attached to my leg.
I have had to take leave from work, as I am recovering in bed.
I was so looking forward to this week as my best friend since I was 10 is flying over this week from Denver to catch up with all of our University friends in London for his 50th birthday.
I originally thought I will not be able to join them but catch up when he travels here where his dad and sister live as well, but I’ll have to wait until his wife and daughter arrive and are settled to visit them at his dads house.
So sorry you had to go through all of that. Did they suggest taking laxatives or more fiber in your diet? I’m sure you feel so much better. I hope your able to enjoy time with your friend. 50 is a magical BDay🌹
Unfortunately bowel issues can irritate the bladder. Have you seen anybody regarding this? I’m under the neuro urology department and they’re assisting me with issues I have. I was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder so self catheterise as struggle to fully empty my bladder. You can speak with your GP for a referral to urology and ask about bowel medication, like a stool softener to make it easier to pass. Making sure you get enough fibre and drink enough water.
