Anxiety
Hello, does anybody else suffer with this? Mine has given me traumas apart from when I relax and I am dreadful at relaxing. Any hints would be gratefully received?

I do indeed. For me, breath work, specifically box breathing: Nose: In for four (deep breath) Hold for four Exhale for four Hold for four. By taking 4 breathes per minute your nervous systems calms way down and takes you out of fight, flight, freeze. Hope it helps. 💕
Yes, I have an official anxiety diagnosis, although I have always been a bit of a worrier. I don't see how anyone with MS isn't anxious, with a body that let's you down and an illness that can't be cured, how do you not feel anxious about the day to day and the future? As far as I know, it's very common for people with MS to have anxiety. As you are in the UK, you can self refer to your local health trust for mental health support and they can provide courses to help with anxiety and a whole load of other things, you don't need a formal diagnosis or to go via the GP, you just fill in a form online. For me, they did an assessment over the phone, discussing the issues and what you wanted help with, you needed to have clear goals as to what you wanted to achieve. I think I shot myself in the foot as my goals were small, I was being realistic knowing they couldn't take away the MS related worry, so I said I just wanted to worry a bit less and sleep a bit better. I was told I was only eligible for the low impact group therapy and am currently doing an online course for anxiety. Even that is helping a bit, I was honest about the MS related worries in one session and the course organisers said afterwards that this course isn't enough, I need something more specific, so they are going to refer me on when this course ends. Happy to share the handouts with you if you message me directly, they did a whole session on relaxing, in addition to the box breathing above there was an exercise above there was one where you think about 5 things you can see, 4 you can hear, 3 you can feel, 2 you can smell and 1 you can taste, doesn't matter if you can't do those numbers but the idea is to focus on the present and your senses one at a time. Definitely grounds you and was weirdly relaxing. There was another where you work you way around your body, tensing then releasing different groups of muscles, that was good for relaxing before bed. If the anxiety is bad and has been going on for a while, then consider going to the GP for some medication, it can help and there's no shame in taking medication to help. Who knows, maybe thd MS is affecting the dopamine receptors in your brain. Sorry for the long post and hope my ramblings help. Hope you find something that works for you.
