How long have you lived with MS undiagnosed?
I was recently diagnosed with MS this year November. Like many I didn’t really know much about it but knew of MS from an episode of Neighbours. Whilst looking at the symptoms of MS I realised that I’ve actually had many of the symptoms. Ultimately my worst symptoms (balance issues, double vision) landed me in hospital for almost a week.
And looking back at my symptoms I’ve had MS since I was 20, so I’ve had MS untreated for 5 years. Sometimes I wonder if I had picked up on the signs earlier, Would there be less damage to my brain and spinal cord? But I know I did everything I could. I made GP appointments but nothing ever came of it. Sometimes I just want to kick myself for not making a fuss or putting it off since It got better.
I’m a self proclaimed workaholic and was working 6 days a week and pushed it further to 7 days a week doing my best to save for a house. I also put my fatigue and memory issues down to working too hard at times 11hr some days.
Anyway that’s my rant over so how long have you gone undiagnosed with MS?
For me the it was 2 years(February 2003), I had ignored the first symptoms and blamed it on stress from work, then in June 2005 the same symptoms hit me again but harder and I ending up to to the hospital and they ran their tests and I was “suspected” to have MS, in August of 2005 it was confirmed, here we are 21 years later now
It was 10+ years of GP ignoring/discounting my symptoms before I finally got a diagnosis. Kept being sent for blood tests and ECGs then being told to just enjoy my life…felt kind of justified when it was finally taken seriously and diagnosed
