Hiya, a lumber puncture can also diagnose MS other than an MRI as cerebral spinal fluid it shows up cells in there that are abnormal to normal readings :)
Hi <a href='https://shift.ms/community/people/lindz/' rel='nofollow'>@lindz</a> I'm pretty sure that <a href='https://shift.ms/community/people/sian810/' rel='nofollow'>@sian810</a> is spot on. An MRI is useful in the diagnosis of MS, but a lumber puncture is the only sure fire way to ID the abnormal cells. For MRIs to really come into their own, you need to have a number of them over a period of time. Because the Neuros can compare the latest one with the last one, they can track the progression of the disease. When I saw my Neuro and he confirmed my diagnosis, he was unable to get my first MRI up on screen properly as there was a computer problem! However, he pretty much said the above.
