Alternate Search Engines

I'd been looking at alternate search engines (general rather than media specific) over the last week and after sifting through a list of about 45 of them, most of which were very commercial/spammy, I selected a shortlist of ones which I actually thought were pretty good and thought I'd share them on here. It should be noted that in each one I used the query 'multiple sclerosis' as a test basis. The last 3 I've grouped separately, as they didn't return that many hits for 'multiple sclerosis' but I felt they offered a unique and different approach to searches in general though so perhaps worthy of mentioning. I particularly wanted to find SE's that weren't too riddled with ads as well as they can be very annoying. Almost impossible to avoid completely though but these seemed a lot less 'in your face' than some of the others I'd tried. Here is the shortlist of ones I thought did a decent job given the search criteria. http://www.sitesondisplay.com (my overall personal fave) http://www.goguides.org http://www.abilogic.com http://www.wowdirectory.com Some other good sources http://www.site-sift.com http://www.directory.v7n.com http://www.thisisouryear.com If anyone else knows of some good ones that might help people out it would be interesting to see/try them, though finding 'ad free' decent ones is a bit of a labor of love it must be said, especially as SE's like Google,Yahoo and Bing dominate in this field. if you do find one that you thinks a keeper, give it a good test first perhaps as they are not all what they seem.
