Rebif

Hi, I'm thinking about transferring from Avonex onto Rebif and just wondered if anyone had any advice on what the side effects of Rebif have been like for them? D x
@Cariad

I've recently started taking Rebif-had my 4th injection yesterday. After the 1st injection, I had really bad side effects-fever, shivering, headache, aching body and being sick...HOWEVER, from then on, the side effects have just been generally feeling a bit 'urgh'. Generally get a headache and want to snuggle up but it's manageable with some ibruprofen. My injection sites are absolutely tiny-just a small dot, although it does sting for a while after I've injected.x

I have only ever taken Rebif. I was on the titrated dose (i.e. started low and gradually increased to the full dosage). I got really bad flu-like symptoms for about 5 months altogether. I would take the injection at around 6-7pm and then just go to sleep by 9-10pm. Sometimes it kept me awake and I was told to take paracetamol but I felt that I'd rather have the side-effects come out rather than dampen then and not know if they were improving or not! It was a bit of an uphill battle three nights a week but by mid-morning of the following day I would feel back to normal again. The needle for Rebif is meant to be much smaller and thinner than for Avonex (I've not seen an Avonex needle but I've been told) as it's sub-cutaneous rather than an intra-muscular injection.
