Introduction
Hi
I'm 69, female, in the UK. Four months ago I was walking several miles a day, going to the gym, looking after grandchildren, driving my husband to hospital appointments etc.
In December felt a small numb patch on my left thigh. This numbness and odd skin sensations gradually spread over weeks all down my leg and then into the other leg. - couldn't drive, as I couldn't feel the pedals properly. Now can hardly shuffle across the room with a stick.Various possible diagnoses including shingles, sciatica . After many weeks, neurology finally agreed to see me. MRI scans show lesions / demyelination in brain and spinal cord.
Probably late onset MS, but still a few blood tests to get back (MOGAD etc) to see if it is a mimic of MS. I've had a 5 day course of strong steroids to try to reduce the inflammation, but the neurologist said it would probably take weeks rather than days to feel better .
Worrying times, as I am usually the one to do things for family, and at the moment I'm having to ask for help . Luckily I have a son nearby, but I hate having to ask for favours.
Thank you for reading this. Anyone had similar experience of a quite sudden and severe onset of probable MS symptoms?
It hit me quick and hard. Numb from the knees down both legs. Hands numb and stiff. The hug was horrible. Headaches, uncoordinated, dropped things pretty often. Got on a good DMT (Ocrevus). Take vitamin D3 and B12 daily. Excercise regularly and the Mediterranean diet. Walking fine now. The hug went away. The numbness in my hands seems permanent. MRI show lesions brain, neck, and spine. Spinal tap to confirm. You can regain a lot of function. Keep the faith and exercise when you can. It helps. Good luck and God bless.
Yes I did when I was 52 .. all went away but my walking slowly deteriorated which led to diagnosis 5 years later. Sending you all my best wishes
