Reassurance / advice
I need some advice and reassurance, I was diagnosed in May with RRMS after I had left sided weakness (first ever symptoms I thought it was a stroke). I have been fine for a whole month then on Tuesday my left leg and left hand spasmed and I ended up laying on the floor for 2 minuets and it stopped. I then had another one today again 2 minuets but I have been shaking for a lot longer (now resting at home) I haven’t started my injections yet hopefully they should happen within the next 4 weeks. I don’t know what causes them and I’m scared.
Are these just flare ups? Has anyone else had this? Does anyone have any advice?
Can’t ever be sure what causes things. My Neurologist always warns me that something can be going on that is completely unrelated to MS. Hi! I’m 55, diagnosed with mild RRMS back in Aug 2022, so I’m stll a newbie. I had 1 flareup causing my R arm to fully go numb for 2-3 seconds before feeling like I was on fire ( I assumed it was all my nerves misfiring). Wiuld totally take me down! Got in to my Neurologist within 4 days and he said it could last up to 4 months, which it did, occuring about 8 times. That was back in spring of 2024. No flareups since. What keeps me healthy is being on Kesimpta, working, vacationing 2-3 times per year, pushing myself to do things even when the fatigue is overwhelming, positive thinking and selfcare as I need it. You are the expert on you- you’ve known you the longest. You will figure out what coping mechanisms work for you. Until then, it is trial and error. You got this MS Warrior. Take care.
If you are concerned it is a flare I would say report it to your MS provider. Symptoms do come and go with out it being a flare up. Over time you will probably identify things that trigger you. For many it is heat for some it is the cold. I would recommend taking vitamin D3 and B12 daily. Both have a lot of research backing the benefits. Going to the gym is very helpful as well. I am on the Ocrevus infusions it it has helped me a lot. No flare ups and no progression on MRI for 5 years now. The numbness in my hands seems to be permanent. For me my right side took most of the damage. They generally tell you new symptoms that last 24 hour that aren’t triggered by heat or an infection. A hot shower for example can trigger a response. Just try to be cognizant of your body and see if you notice a response occurs with a certain activity such as a hot shower. It can be a shock when first diagnosed. You will calm with time. Feel free to reach out anytime if you have questions. God bless.
