Vitamin D advice
I've been taking vitamin d3 4000 IU literally just ran out so been to Holland and Barretts to get more go to pay and the lady behind the till said it's a really high dose and we don't recommend people taking it without having blood tests done, or if your doctor has told you! I came back with it's as I have MS and I was told to by my doctor she came back with are you sure cos it's a really high dose! Now I don't want to take it anymore cos my boyfriend come out with it sits in your liver and can course liver failure! I can never ever get hold of my ms team! Just give up with it all
Too high a level of vitd in someone’s system can cause issues, which is why the lady was saying to be sure. My neuro has told me to take 5000iu and to be honest I forget the vast majority of the time so my level is too low. I’d follow what your neuro / ms nurse says, but if you’re worried, explain to them and ask for a test to check your level. If you still can’t get hold of them, speak to your GP cos they can do a blood test for you.
It all depends on the frequency that you are taking it. I am on 20000 iu a week and was already told that couldn't be enough due to the fact that the UK is a really difficult country to keep up your vit D3 levels up due to the lack of sunshine needed to activate it. My MS nurse advised that the recommended is around 30000 to 40000 units per week due to that fact. But everyone is different so take it with a pinch of salt 😊
