Retrobulbar neuritis
If you've experienced retrobulbar neuritis before, can you share what symptoms you had and how it was diagnosed?
I've visited the optician after having had pain in my left eye when moving my eye. No blurred vision or colour vision loss. The optician has suggested RN as a possibility and made an urgent referral to Opthalmology.
What tests are needed to confirm? I had an OCT scan and field visions at the optician however I'm wondering what else might be needed and if they'll fast track a head MRI..?
I had pain in the back of my eyes when I moved them during optic neuritis. I had flashes of white light when moving them which showed up by being in a dark room or with eyes closed, and something like a migraine aura but with no headache that would go after about an hour. I had no loss of vision or colour loss apart from the loss of vision due to flickery colored lights in the 'aura'. Maybe mention ON as a possible cause to the ophthalmologist because I think it should show up on examination if it was that. I'm no doctor though.
Thanks for replying! The retrobulbar neuritis is similar to optic neuritis but it's not visible from the front of the nerve so on an eye exam or scan. The inflammation would be found at the back of the eye. Your visual symptoms are interesting - I'm getting weird lights but it's quite mild.
