Optic neuritis for 2 months. How long?

How long can I expect this? It's been a little over 2 months...the eye has not worsened or got any better...it's like looking through cobwebs/smoke and I'm tired of it!!! Any advice is a Godsend :)

A course of steroids would sort it 3 days a gram a day iv. Ask if you haven't already.

@Jessa , have a read though this regarding optic Neuritis :- http://www.mssociety.org.uk/what-is-ms/signs-and-symptoms/eyes-and-sight/optic-neuritis#Recovery Steroids, as mentioned by @Graham100 are seen as an option, dependent on the severity of the problem.

Hi Jessa, I am in the UK but when I was referred from the optic-neuro to an MS specialist Neuro he put me on Solu-medrol 500mg per day for 5 days - my vision went from 75% gone to almost back, I have a haze on the outer right of my eye (a little bit like a smudge on my glasses) but it was a saviour! I'm currently having another attack of it but nowhere near as bad as the first one, I would go see your Dr about maybe getting some steroids to help. If you need to talk about anything just message me :)

Never had treatment, but was only diagnosed after the 2nd (and last) episode 3/5 weeks and back to not quite normal. Feels/looks like a net or yes, smoke. Hope you get help to get back to normal. If its any help - relax it will be ok!

I did take prednisone for a week when it started. It didn't help.I can tell things have lightened up in the two months I've had it but it's still socked in and I can't read out of it or see details.

@Jessa , it seems that you'll have to bear with the problem, it can take some time to recover from visual problems. So, be patient.

Hi, I had optiv neuritis about 2 weeks, but my eye is completely blind now. I can´t see anything on the left eye. I hope you´ll do better! Isa

I've had ON three times now and have just found that, though the steroids will/can give it an initial boost at the beginning - I only bothered with the steroids once - it generally just gradually gets better at its own pace. This latest time, the major recovery happened in the first week or so, then seriously slowed down. It feels as though it has plateaued but I know from experience that I'm just no longer noticing the small improvements.

I HAD OPTIC NEURITIS FOR THE FIRST TIME ABOUT 27 YRS AGO...WAS PUT ON PREDNISONE, OFF AND ON FOR 7 MONTHS. FINALLY THEY PUT ME IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A "METHYL" DRIP FOR 4 DAYS...WHICH SOLVED THE ISSUE...THEY SUSPECTEDMSS THEN BUT THE MRI'S THEN WERE NOT SOPHISTICATED ENOUGH TO DETECT THE MS. SO I WENT BACK TO WORK 16 YEARS LATER I GOT OPTIC NEURITIS AGAIN, HAD AN MRI, AND MS WAS CONFIRMED....BY THAT TIME I REALIZED THAT THE STEROIDS I HAD TAKEN HAD TAKEN SUCH A TOLL ON MY BODY...(I HAD TO HAVE WHOLE TOP TEETH TAKEN OUT BECAUSE THE STEROIDS HAD ROBBED MY BODY OF CALCIUM)...SO THIS TIME SINCE I WAS GOING BACK TO WORK,I DECIDED TO JUST LET IT HEAL ITSELF...AND IT WILL NEVER B PERFECT, BUT IT'S ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL...GOOD LUCK....

6 months, 20 years ago. No offer of treatment even though MS was strongly suspected. I was told then that there was nothing they could do. I still get bouts quite frequently, but have still not had treatment as I have only recently started seeing a neuro. Good luck.
