Work Patterns

Hey!

Hope everyone is doing ok! Ok so ive been off sick this year and just went back to work. Currently, I work 4 days a week, full days and im off a wednesday, my office is open Mon-Fri. So anyway, I’m thinking about reducing my hours by one day. Just wondering what day I should take off? I get to do some home working too, usually 2 days a week. So im just wondeing what others work patterns are? What is good to help with fatigue? I do get really tired so im just trying to find a good work/life balance that works for both me and my employer.

I’m now on elbow crutches so getting about is more difficult and takes a lot more energy.

Thanks in advance for any advice, i would love to hear whats working for people.

Thanks again x

@rainbow , so, if my fingers tell me the truth, you’re presently doing 4 days a week, but are considering reducing this to 3 days. Although, you may be able to work 1 or 2 of these days from home. Is my understanding correct?

And, do you have much of a commute to and from work, because this may be quite tiring too?

The art of managing fatigue is in the management. We have to pace ourselves, taking breaks when, and if, we can, so as not to over-tire ourselves.

You might also want to take a look at “Access to Work”. They might be able to assist in facilitating an easier commute for you. as well as other aspects to assist you :-

Hey @stumbler thanks for your reply. I’m sorry I really didn’t word that well, that tends to happen when I get tired lol I stop making sense and take ages getting to the point – I’ve always been the same. But yes you are correct, i currently work 4 days, looking to reduce this to 3. With a couple of home work days. There is a commute to work on the train which takes about 30min, but then you have to get yo the station, buy ticket, wait etc The barriers st the station are a nightmare with crutches. Plus station is super busy when you get there and people just charge at you. What do you think then about work pattern? Yes this is my plan to try and manage things to help fatigue levels. I will have a look at access to work, i just feel sometimes these services are for people more in need than myself.

Thanks @supermun for your reply. I think your right, im currently leaning towards taking the Thursday. Yeah i travel, ive mentioned it about to stumbler. The travel does get tiring, nothing worse than that tiring you out even before you start any work!

Thanks again for replying! X

Ha Ha, @rainbow , you made perfect sense. I was just checking my own integrity. 😉

I had a feeling that a tiring commute may be involved. I remember the morning fight to get to work, arriving there shattered – and that was pre-MS!

So, it may be challenging to arrange, but just trying to ensure that you have a day at home after a commute-day would be a suggestion.

And, do checkout Access to Work. There’s a fair bit of information on this scheme, so put “Access to work” into the Forum’s Search function (magnifying glass, top left) to access this info.

I’d go for a Monday because I bloody hate Monday’s! Fridays everyone seems more happy which will in turn boost your own mood!
