Working

I work full time at the moment, but finding it increasingly difficult and am constantly exhausted. I would like to reduce my hours but need to pay my mortgage and bills. I am a single parent and not sure if I would be entitled to any help if I went part time
I live in Galway, Ireland

@grainne_morahan , you need some specific advice before you make any decisions. Try :-

@grainne_morahan

Hi
Have you spoken to your employer and do they know your situation?
They have to make reasonable adjustments and may be able to help with flexible working hours etc. to help with the tiredness. You’re protected somewhat under the employment equality act https://www.ihrec.ie/guides-and-tools/human-rights-and-equality-for-employers/what-does-the-law-say/eea-summary/. Check out MS Ireland website too https://www.ms-society.ie/
Check these out and get your head around the law before engaging in any conversation. I don’t know your circumstances but hopefully your employer will do the right thing to help you out. Best of luck.

@grainne_morahan

Ask citizens advice regarding how you’d fair applying for FIS (family income support) if u were to reduce your hours to part-time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice and will take on board
Will talk to my employer and also citizens advice. My employer is aware of my condition and would be accommodating.

Have never asked for anything previously as i try to just get on with things which I have been able to do up to now, but after 21 years with MS, starting to listen to my body now
