If a tree falls in the forest. A forest. The woods. A grove. A coppice. A gathering of trees within close proximity to one another. Gathered together closely. Every has a purpose. Watching one another. Witnessing achievements. Sharing failures. A champion grasping at the sun with a full outstretched plumage. Noticed by all. Reaching in competition. Aspiring to outdo, to out wit, to out reach. In competition, the weaker fall by the wayside. Wilted. Weakened. Worrying. A crack. A split. A shudder. An embarrassed quiet cry. Can’t reach high enough. Leaves fall, wilted. Branches crack, hardened. The competition continues. Too busy to notice. Forest floor littered. Can’t ask, won’t ask. Help? Branches climb higher, while leaves fall lower. And lower. Cracks split deeper. Falling. Does it make a sound?
