Pharma Support

Hi All

Is there anyone on Shift that knows which Multiple Sclerosis groups/sites in the UK are backed wholly or partially by big Pharma ? I am referring to the big sites

e.g. or similiar

NB: Not suggesting are an clear example or involved with big Pharma, just using an example most can relate to by what I mean when I say “bit sites”.

@seanachai , are you suggesting that the world of MS is a bit incestuous, where money is concerned? After all, it is money that makes the world go round and who says no to a handout. πŸ˜‰

@stumbler, are you suggesting there are no neutral, non-biased organisations in existence?

Surely this does not include Shift? πŸ™‚

@seanachai , you might think that, but I couldn’t possibly comment………. πŸ™‚

Just take your meds and DMDs like a good boy, don’t question it, it’s for your own good – after all the multi million pound pharma industry and all their cohorts know best…
Yes no less than 15 pharma sponsor shift and all the neuros are on backhanders

Hi @seanachai @mermaidia11

We think it’s important our community are aware of how is funded so here you go. We have four primary sources of income:

Fundraising from the community – this funding is how we developed to where we are today and is central to our future plans. It is our most precious source!

Grants from Trusts and Foundations – these grants have allowed us to develop specific projects (e.g. MS Reporters) which in turn have enabled to grow.

Funding from Corporate organisations – funding from commercial organisations (including pharmaceutical companies) have been for specific projects (e.g Gallop, MS Sessions)

Earned income – this is a fledgling stream where the team are delivering services for a paid fee (such as work we delivered recently that was commissioned from NHS England). Any margin from these activities is used to develop the community.

We are proud of our diverse funding streams and believe this gives us relative stability in an uncertain time. Supporting our community of MSers is and will continue to be’ reason for existing.
