LP Results

Hi there
I was going to Google but have realised it is a whole scary place out there….so I’ve just received the lp results and it says normal csf constituents and csf constituents glucose. Oligoclonal bands positive…does the normal csf mean anything and I think I know what the Oligoclonal bands means!

@brownk , yes, the oligoclonal bands are the important feature. That’s usually the confirmation that the Neuro needs when MRIs etc., are inconclusive. 😕

And, yes, do be cautious of “Doctor Google”. You can stumble across some right horror stories, which are totally out of context.

Try to stick with creditable sites, e.g. the MS trust, MS society, etc. 😉

@stumbler thank you…I’m just waiting to hear for the next steps. Have you any idea what they may be?

@brownk , well, the Neuro will review these results together with your other test results and would appear to be in a position where he can give you a formal diagnosis.

If you get a diagnosis of MS then it will be a case of discussing the future and your introduction to your MS Nurse. They’ll be someone, who just specialises in MS patients and will be your first point of contact for all things MS.

So, it’s wait and see time, but your diagnostic journey may be coming to a close. 😉

I remember this time well, I think Stumbler is fair in saying that the Neuro will piece everything together from Scans, LP and Bloods to discuss your next steps. For us though this is the stage where we get anxious and tired, having gone through a battery of tests.

When is your next Neuro appointment? This could be the positive thing you do for yourself, arrange the appointment and if you can, take someone with you to go through what the Neuro discusses, usually there’s a fair bit of information.

Best of luck and health! 🙂

@themsinme thanks ☺ I haven’t got my next appointment through yet…I chased it today so hope it will be soon. I just feel…we’ll that I don’t know enough I can’t even be sure what type of ms I have and don’t have say idea about treatment etc. Lots to learn.

This site has been bloody fantastic though and a great source of info.

Take it at your own pace, if you get a diagnosis which you may do, it kind of takes off and there are a team of people around you, medications and lifestyle hacks. Best advice is to remain calm and ask questions, lots of questions, be your own best advocate!
