Driving and DVLA

Hey

I need to inform DVLA about my ms, I looked online and can see a form you can print complete and send back is that correct?

I’m worried there take mylicence away as my ms started with double vision before diagnosis and then it has completely recovered so much that the eye department has even discharged me

I have no mobility issues or anything else that would affect my driving and I’m sure my consultant would also confirm this just a bit anxious and worried as my main reason for going doc etc before diagnosis was for double
Vision

Hi

More often MSers will get a licence for 3 years to be reviewed. You may have a driving assessment and they may write to your GP or specialist about how MS affects you. I have had MS for15 years and still drive.

It is a legal requirement that you inform the DVLA.

A driving assessment involves an examiner judging your physical and mental ability to drive. It isn’t an actual test.

Oh so I don’t have to get in car and drive? So how do they do the test?

You will have to drive. They will assess your ability to drive. No emergency stop test or 3 point turn. They will sit in the car as you drive.

Did you have to do this? I haven’t heard of anyone else doing this only eye test and just writing to consultants to see if ft to drive? Maybe you do a driving test if you are not very mobile? Maybe they give this test to other people with different medical conditions who aren’t able to drive

I’m very able to drive I have no mobile issues or any symptoms the only symptom I had was double vision over a year ago which has now recovered fully so hopefully I wouldn’t need to have an actual driving test considering there are people probably a lot worse then me.
