Aaarrrggghhh!

Am new here but just wanna get some stuff out there to fellow m.s.ers!

I was diagnosed with The Beast in 2013, 6 weeks after taking voluntary redundancy from a great job rather than move my then family to Puerto Rico, a BIG hit of m.s! Spent 4 months in hospital with it, came out in a wheelchair, then a stick, but no more! In fact last year I ran walked and wheelchaired the local Bristol half marathon for the charity m.s. research! Brave or stupid?!

Point is, my husband left me and our 2 young boys, though he still sees them every other weekend. He couldn’t cope with the fact that I was no longer the big breadwinner of the relationship. Well f him! His loss! Am still ME!

And my mother still has my bank cards, because apparently I can’t be trusted with them and she has Power of Attorney!

Anyhoo, rant done! Sorry! Boring!!! Xxx

Hi @sallymartin and welcome.

It’s always good to get things off your chest, that’s just one of the reasons that this Forum exists. And these husbands that run off at the fist sign of hardship, it gives us blokes a bad name!

So, c’mon then, who are your favourite band?

@sallymartin

Hi Sally; notice you have been on this site for a couple of years. FYI – I update my profile once a year so those who are interested are aware of recent information.

First things first – congrats on the local Bristol marathon. Not something I would do yet still impressive.

Second; glad your hubby is far away. Too bad you still have to see him “for the children”. Sometimes we need to “not shoot someone” for others we care about. 😉

Third & more important to me, why does Mom have Power of Attorney? Is there information we can share that might assist?

Hello @stumbler . Interesting that you ask about fave bands. Well my first love is the Vaccines, who I now know very well! Met up with the boys several times! And Justin from the band has offered me any UK gig I could get to! Alas they didn’t play in Bristol recently! I met them through a charity called Given to live, who help disabled people access live gigs. Also met the Stereophonics, alas Kelly is too short for me! And I now know old band EMF, well Derry and Ian from the boys. Xxx

@edmontonalberta. Oh she thinks I would just spend spend spend! Cigarettes and alcohol! But no I wouldn’t!!!

@sallymartin

If all it took was spending my money on cigarettes and alcohol – I would have lost control of all my money decades ago. And so would most of my friends… 😉

@sallymartin , so was that a case of MS opening a few doors for you? I’m sure we’re all looking for pluses from this condition. 😉

Okay and all, how hard is it to find a job, when officially disabled?! Very! I need something within school hours, but would work from home thereafter! And I still can speak 4 European languages fluently, English, French, German and Spanish! But can I find a fekkin job?! No! I took voluntary redundancy from the last good job, 6 weeks before m.s. descended into my world! Aaarrrggghhh! But still can speak the languages fluently despite the brain condition! So just aaarrrggghhh! Xxx

Yes @stumbler, I met a chap randomly at a friend’s birthday party, who helps disabled people get into music gigs, and he sorted it for me to meet the Vaccines boys first time! Have met up with them often since! Oh the joys of our condition!

@sallymartin , you may be officially disabled, but are you visibly disabled? Like, is it obvious when you meet someone. e.g. a job interview?It’s just that you’re not legally obliged to mention your MS, unless it’s obvious.

I am aware of a translations company, https://www.todaytranslations.com/ . My son’s Father-in-law is a director, although the company is owned by his wife. Might be worth an enquiry…….

@stumbler, thank you! I can but try! But can I say who directed me to them, surely stumbler is not your real name! Xxx
