I keep forgetting how to swallow

Hi everyone :) So lately I keep noticing that I forget how to swallow..... I can still swallow it doesn’t hurt and I haven’t choked or anything (touch wood) But today eating my lunch I’d sit with the food in my mouth, telling myself swallow and I can’t do it, it takes 3 or 4 tries to swallow the food or I’ll have to just stop, breathe and then try again? It’s the same with drinks, so I’m drinking a cup of tea now and it was hot sitting in my mouth but I just couldn’t swallow, then I try again and again and eventually I swallow it but I can’t seem to swallow smoothly and effortlessly like normal. Does anyone else have this? Like right now I just swallowed like usual and without thinking about it but I know if I take a sip of my tea it’ll take 3 or 4 goes before I’m actually able to swallow. I don’t have previous swallowing problems so this is a new issue for me. If anyone has the same problem, or if I make no sense at all please let me know haha! Thank you x

I think it's when you think about it or actually try and force yourself. I had this a few months ago, scared me alittle, I took a few breaths in and concentrated on my breathing and it goes back to normal. I think it's like when you're aware of breathing, suddenly it's harder 🤷🏻‍♀️. Try to keep your mind off it, I just breathe when it happens but I don't think it's my MS?

Yeah I agree, like I say I can swallow just sometimes it’s takes a while to actually do it. You’re right though I think it is when you’re actively thinking of it. Thank you! X
