π¬ Right Then... I Accidentally Started an MS Podcast π
A little while ago I threw an idea out on here.
What if there was something where people with MS could just talk honestly about what living with MS is actually like?
Not doctors.
Not neurologists.
Not someone reading a leaflet explaining fatigue to people who've been fucking exhausted since Tuesday.
Us.
The response I got on here was bloody brilliant. People messaged saying they'd watch it, listen to it, come on as a guest or get involved somehow.
So...
I may have got slightly carried away. π
π§ ποΈ MYELIN MANIACS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING.
I've been quietly building the website, sorting out the recording setup and finding some fellow Maniacs willing to sit near microphones and see what happens.
ποΈ THE PODCAST
Episode 1: Meet the Host
Me. My story. My MS. Why I started this whole bloody thing and why giving me a microphone seemed like a reasonable decision.
Episode 2: Enter Warlock π§ββοΈ
Meet my co-host, hear his story and discover why putting the two of us near microphones seemed remotely sensible.
Then...
we open the doors.
Guests.
Rotating Maniacs.
Different types of MS.
Different stages.
Different experiences.
And importantly...
different opinions.
Newly diagnosed. Years into it. RRMS. SPMS. PPMS. People doing brilliantly. People having an absolutely shit time.
Because there isn't one correct way to have MS.
And I don't want Myelin Maniacs pretending there is.
But I've also had another idea...
β‘ THE 6-MINUTE MANIAC
The idea is ridiculously simple:
You can do almost anything for six minutes.
You don't always want an hour-long podcast.
Sometimes you've got six minutes.
So if you've got something to say about MS...
you've got six minutes.
Tell us a story.
Have a rant.
Talk about something that's helped you.
Give somebody a bit of motivation.
Share an experience.
Talk about something nobody warned you about.
Or tell us about the day MS completely took the piss. π
And it doesn't have to be a traditional podcast.
π§ Record your voice.
π₯ Send a video.
βοΈ Write something.
π¨ Draw something if that's how you want to get your point across.
Script it. Wing it. Ramble from the sofa in your pyjamas.
You don't need podcast equipment.
You don't need presenting experience.
You don't even need to show your face.
The point isn't making everyone look or sound professional.
It's giving people living with MS a little bit of space to sound like themselves.
Some 6-Minute Maniacs might be funny.
Some serious.
Some motivational.
Some genuinely useful.
And some may just be six minutes of:
βWHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, MS?β
Also acceptable. π
π AND THE WEBSITE IS NOW LIVE
π myelinmaniacs.co.uk
I've built a home for all this madness where you can find out what we're doing, meet the Maniacs, put yourself forward as a guest, suggest something we should talk about or just have a nose around.
And this is where you lot come in.
Before we properly launch, I'd genuinely love some feedback from the Shift.ms community.
Have a look around:
π myelinmaniacs.co.uk
Tell me...
What's good?
What's shit?
What's confusing?
What's missing?
What would you like us to talk about?
Would you watch or listen?
Would you send us a 6-Minute Maniac?
Would you actually fancy sitting in the Maniac chair yourself? π
Don't worry about being polite. π
I'd rather you lot find the holes in it now than discover them after I've pressed the big shiny LAUNCH button.
A lot of this idea grew out of conversations I've had with people right here on Shift.ms, so it feels right that you lot get one of the first proper looks at it.
