My MS Journey, 2008

Welcome to my first ever blog post. My posts will highlight controlling and living with Multiple Sclerosis in a positive way the ups and downs, and how life has changed since my prognosis in line with groundbreaking treatments and research! So …..about me??? Well here goes….. Hi my name is Prena Visavadia I was born on the 15th April 1992. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in June 2008. The neurological symptoms, which I experienced, where numbness to the left hand and tingling of my left hand side of face starting in the left lower lip, spreading into the upper lip, cheek and left side of tongue. This demyelination was captured on a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan showing several areas of abnormal high signal in the white matter of both cerebral hemispheres. This was the early onset of Relapses Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS). What is Multiple Sclerosis? The MS trust from September 2021 research has estimated 2,500,000 Multiple Sclerosis worldwide and about 130,000 people suffering in the UK living with MS. There are several definitions for Multiple Sclerosis however my interpretations is is is caused by an attack on my immune system within my body. Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune condition it’s main function is to fight off infections, mistakes myelin for a foreign body and attacks it. The attack strips off the sheathing of the neves (myelin) this weakness the connection in my Central Nervous System between brain and spinal cord. This damages the myelin and strips it off the nerve fibres, either slightly or completely, leaving scars known as lesions.
