Immune system

Hi all, Do you think MS or the drugs play with your immune system. I work full time and in a school and always seem to get hit quite bad with colds, coughs, throat problems. Can it be classed as connected to MS? Worried about having time off.

Hi, yes I do. Although I think drug-related for me (on Ocrevus). I haven’t had more colds and flu thank before diagnosis, but when I do get one, they hit me harder. I have also had trouble with cold sores not going away using over-the-counter medicine and have just started three months of an anti-viral drug for this. I gather this is a known side effect of being immunosuppressed. Apart from that I think stress and being tired etc just means we’re more vulnerable. Do you take a vitamin D supplement too, that could also help?

Hi, some DMTs suppress the immune system (as mentioned above on Ocrevus). I think Tysabri and Lemtrada might 🤷‍♀️. MS itself affects the brain and spinal cord. I am not sure of MS affects on the immune system. It’s hard to stay away from germs if you are a teacher/ work in a school. Especially working with young kids. Look after yourself and let the head worry about managing staff. That’s why they get paid the money. Definitely recommend looking after number one. Good luck.
