Work

Hi, any comments would be greatly appreciated. I was diagnosed with MS PP some 12 years ago and joined a new (large) firm 8 years ago. I was completely open about my diagnosis. Oh i am 53. My firm is changing their finance system, and I fully expect my role to be made redundant in a few months as does my boss (but nothing concrete) My boss has said that I am getting worse, especially in the afternoon where my speech becomes slurred, I look tired and my work output is reduced. Do i start a 'protected' meeting with a view to a payoff, go off sick, with reduced pay or angle for retirement due too ill heath (my pension is rubbish) Thanks

It’s hard to advise you without knowing your organisations policies and procedures. Are you in the Uk? If so, do you have a union you can seek help from? Remember, your post is being made redundant, not you. If you want to remain employed tell them that and ask for redeployment opportunities. Can you get an estimate of how much a payout would be? Are you in a field of work where there are good chances of finding work in other organisations? One thing is for certain, your MS should not be part of the redundancy decision making process for your company, if it is, that is illegal in the UK under the Equalities Act. Good luck

@jonathan_white. Get your employer to organise an Occupational Health Assessment. This will help you in making a decision, but will also fight your corner in suggesting reasonable adjustments. Good luck!
