very confused with new news

My wife has just told me that approximately 2 years ago her doctor at the time did some blood tests and told her she had MS. We have a different doctor now and don’t know where the other doctor has gone. I have read up on MS and it seems to me that a positive MS diagnosis requires a lot more than just a few blood tests. English is my wifes second language and she is often confused by what she hears. I know that this letter is going to sound very lame but that’s all I have for now. My question is, does this sound possible? thanks for any insight.

@al-a MS can not be diagnosed via a blood test. Did she have an MRI or lumbar puncture done along with the blood tests?

no and that is what confuses me.

She probably did misunderstand the doctor. I’ve never heard of anyone being diagnosed thru a blood test. It’d be a lot easier if it could be diagnosed that way. It’s not even that common for someone to be diagnosed thru just an MRI without a lumbar puncture. I’d request a brain and spine MRI first if you suspect that she may have MS.

Wow thanks to both of you for this information. We have a doctor appointment next Tuesday where I was hoping to get some clarity on the matter but I have been very worried. Your comments will lessen my anxiety till then. After reading up on MS my heart goes out to people who suffer from it.

@al-a , as there’s a language issue, you should ask the Doctor to review the notes from two years ago to confirm what exactly was said.

There are so many medical terms that your wife may well have misinterpreted what was said…..

It’s good of you to pop into our world on behalf of your wife. She’s lucky to have you.

Hello @al-a, is there any chance the doctor could have mentioned ME and not MS?

First yes, looking through previous medical records should show something as records tend to follow the patient I think. Also as far as the doctor mentioning ME instead, it could be possible I guess but she isn’t experiencing a huge problem with fatigue. I will be sure to get back after next Tuesday to post what the doctor did say. Thanks again for the speedy replies.

As I promised I am getting back to you with the results of our doctor visit regarding this post. My wife often gets confused as english is her second language and it turns out that this was another of those situations. There is no record of any doctor diagnosing her as having MS. Thanks for all your posts you were very helpful. I will be leaving your forum now but for what it is worth I made a donation to this site in appreciation.
