Tecfidera and covid 19

Hi
I’m looking for advice. I’m taking tecfidera my neurologist rang the other day and said that tecfidera is consider safe in relation to the covid 19 outbreak. He said to keep taking it and if I was to contract covid 19 I wouldn’t be any more sick as other people. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

@weybey
Hi I’m using tecfidera as well.
From what I’ve read and been told on the subject, your neurologist is in agreement with mine…
Keep taking it, we’re no better or worse of than those without MS.
I hope their correct.
Keep smiling 😊

Hi @weybey, I’m a Teccie to and have no concerns taking it at the moment. The good thing about it is that if we did get Corona and were told to come off it temporarily, I think it’s an easy DMT to stop and start. Tec modulates the immune system rather than suppresses it for the majority of users. Stay safe and well 🙂

@weybey I am just still trying to get used to Tecfidera, not at all worried about it as my understanding also is that it is not an immunosuppresant. Hopefully you are able to isolate anyway?

@weybey – later today a video will drop with Aaron Boster MD talking exclusively about DMTs and Covid-19.

There is a tiny subset of dimethyl fumarate (Tecfidera) also referred to as DMF – rather confusingly – users with a peculiar blood count – something they’d be aware of and in front of at your hosp. If it were you, you’d know.

Immunomodulator as @vixen observes. Your main goal is not a function of MS, it is just to avoid getting the disease by hand washing and staying away from people!

Stay safe.
