Switching Meds

Hello I was diagnosed with RRMS in 2005 and have since been on Rebif Interferon which worked pretty well for me until last year when I had 2 relapses. Due to this my neurologist has advised me to switch to Fingolimod/Gylenya. I just wanted to know if anyone has been in a similar situation to myself and if you have switched what you have thought of Fingolimod. Obviously I am a bit concerned as there are a few risks attached to this med as it is more effective than my current one. Would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks Eilis

@egmo , a "Gilenya" tag has been automatically added the the foot of your post above. Select this tag to locate previous discussions regarding this medication. All of the Disease Modifying Therapies (DMTs) are powerful medications and come with risks. But, MS also comes with risks. However, MS is completely unpredictable whereas the risks with DMTs are known, can be seen coming and corrective action taken......

Interesting- I was also Dx in 2005 but started on Copaxone as there were only 2 DMTs available at that time and Copaxone had fewer side-effects but had a bit longer time before it was fully effective. I was on it for 11 years and the injection site reactions and time resulted in some crepy skin and bumps but more of an issue were lesions and some attacks during the time. I moved so switched Neuros and was glad I did. He has a more aggressive approach and didn't like the number of lesions I had so moved me to Rebif and didn't have any more visible attacks but had likely already transitioned to SPMS. I was moved up to Ocrevus to prevent further erosion. This entire video is great but Dr Boster starts to explain, in rather humorous common language, all of the MS DMTs at about 32 minutes. Worth a watch to understand how the various DMTs work - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gHhdwKK5uc Good to ask a lot of questions and learn all you can...good luck!
