Setting up own business????

Has anyone set up their own business working from home? From leaving school i have been focussed in a tunnel vision kind of way in achieving my career goal so never really looked around at different job options when younger. Now i'm not sure how much longer i can keep working in my current role and would like to set up a business from home. My work are brilliant and are doing EVERYTHING to keep me @ work for as long as possible but eventually (and probably not in the too distant future) i know i will have to stop my current employment - not being negative - in fact feeling very positive about a new adventure as whilst i am limited mobility/fatigue wise i do not feel ready for the scrap heap just yet but haven't a clue how to go about getting ideas to start up my own business which i could run from home...anyone got any starting points that i could look into whilst still having a job and an income coming in????? Thanks x

Hi Becks, without knowing what you do and who for your current employers sound cool, can you work from home part time and set your own thing up at the same time? Good luck with it!

@Becks

unfortunately thats the one think my work cannot/will not entertain - i am a senior solicitor and i head up a team of 3 other part-timers running a combined case load of nearly 300 cases. I am only well enough to work 3 days a week and despite representations from MS nurse and Access to Work they say they cannot have me working from home 1 day a week and in the office the other 2 days. It is a continual point that i keep raising never fear but without success to date!! So whilst i can still carry on i will do and we have also discussed me still being employed by my firm but not running a case load but dealing more with compliance and running a case management system which would allow me to possibly work at home some of the time but the crunch is gonna come at some point that i cannot carry on in the legal field despite al the efforts of my employers who have been fab so i was just trying to feather my nest in advance to make the transition of the loss of my beloved and chosen career for something different that little bit easier and to help the income side of things when i can no longer practice law - i just haven't got a clue where to start - i have no ideas regarding what i would like to do seeing as i have been so focussed on getting where i am now, and whilst its alright people saying to me the world is my oyster and i can choose to do whatever i want that thought is so daunting when you career has been so structured and set out for you to date - aarrrghh!!!! :-(
