Relapse/flare up?

Hi all Still fairly new to all of this (diagnosed officially 9 months ago, no DMTs yet) My MS nurse told me to contact them and report any new symptoms so that can build up a picture and il be called for another mri 12 months after my initial one (so that should be in about 2 months time) But im a little confused with terminology. Iv been told to report 'relapses' but iv also heard this term of 'flare ups' How do i know if its a relapse or just a flare up of old symptoms or is that the same thing?

@becky My ms nusrses keep saying a relapse is any new symptom not exacerbation of an old one. I’ve read a relapse can be worsening of an old symptom too. I like you am struggling to know what is a true relapse to report 🙃

@beckie I have the understanding that a flare up involves previous symptoms whereas a relapse involves new symptoms.
