Phenoxymethylpenicillin
Right... I think there’s a link here. A link that might mean I don’t actually have MS and have something else instead.
Back in April I had a small infection on my finger. I went to my GP who prescribed a course of phenoxymethylpenicillin antibiotic. The infection cleared up fine and I was good for a few weeks. Then I started experiencing my first MS symptoms.
At the time I hadn’t put two and two together so clearly like I have now, and thought I maybe had a trapped nerve or had MS. Now, I’m thinking that phenoxymethylpenicillin was what sparked my symptoms. It’s listed in the side effects as rarer than rare - instance not known - “neurotoxicity”. After some further research it would seem that the symptoms I experienced and the lesions that appeared in my MRI could very well be from neurotoxicity instead of MS.
Has anybody else had similar thoughts/experience/just think this warrants further investigation? I’m definitely going to mention it to my neuro and nurse. I was in near perfect health before and hardly ever take medication unless I absolutely need it. It just isn’t sitting right with me that this course of medication and my first symptoms were so close.
Thoughts?
ask for another opinion. but when you go to another doctor for a 2-nd opinion, dont tell about you MS, and then see what answer you get
Thanks @nicu_macism - I did sort of already get a 2nd opinion but both neurologists ended up being quite close colleagues. So I’ll pursue another medical opinion 😊
