Pain and no relief.

I went to the er today and left feeling the same rating 10+pain level. The er doctor did not listen to me at all. He wrote me a script for Gabapentin and ib protein. It's been 9 hours and still no relief from pain. My pain is in my hands and from my waist down. And it feels like I am swollen and on fire I cant even stand clothing touching my skin because it hurts so bad. I have been crying most of the day because of pain. On top of that my hands dont want to work for me and my legs have a mind of their own. I go see my nuro this Thursday. Thank God I just got done with a staroid treatment for 5 days my last day was Christmas day. My boys and husband want to help so bad but dont know how to make me better.

Hi @kelly_sivertsen and welcome. I'm sorry that you year has concluded in such a way. This holiday season can't have been easy for you. Peripheral Neuropathy is one of the most frustrating symptoms of MS as there is no real cause for the pain that we feel. The following article discusses the types of pain we can feel, and the potential treatments:- https://www.mstrust.org.uk/a-z/pain I not that you have just completed a course of Steroids, so I assume that you've had some relapse activity. Steroids are not an overnight fix. Their primary role is to address the area of inflammation on your Central Nervous System (CNS) responsible for the relapse. This will then allow your body to attempt to recover from the damage caused. The Steroids will be working with your body for the next 6 - 8 weeks to effect repairs. However, you need to allow your body to recover by resting up. Gabapentin is one of the treatments for neuropathic pain, but it needs time to build up in your body. Also, you will need to find the right dosage over time that works for you. Ibuprofen will have a negligible effect. I hope things start to improve for you quickly.
