New guy saying howdy

Howdy all,

I’m new to this site after my MS nurse pointed me in this direction. A little about me:

I’m a 34 year old Male.
Married with a young son, 7 months old.
I Live in Southampton.
I enjoy paddle boarding, going out on my mountain bike. I did enjoy the gym but haven’t really been since Aug 2019 due to various issues. I like playing on the xbox mainly with my identical twin brother.

Now the boring bit lol.

Diagnosed with RRMS on the 7th Jan 2020.
I’ve probably had MS around 2 years.
I’m currently on my 5th week of Tecfidera.

I hope you’re all well πŸ™‚

Tell me abit about yourselves.

Kind regards,

Rich

Welcome πŸ˜‰ basically you post questions and others weigh in their experiences or provide useful content. You can search for past discussions in the upper left at the magnifying glass and check people in the upper right. You can request friends and have private conversations with them. If you want to make sure someone sees your note put a “@” with their name in your note.

Pretty good group here…I’ve learned a lot and shared a lot. πŸ˜‰

Hi Ralee, fellow mountain biking ms’er here. Not much chance of me paddle boarding now though as my legs and balance are basically shot, but for some reason I can still spin my legs in circles. So even though I struggle to walk an emtb allows me to keep exploring the hills πŸ™‚

Hi @ralee, welcome to Shift. I live up north but am from the IOW so know S’oton well! I am on Tecfidera too, 3 years now. You must be still getting used to everything, so we’re all familiar with that. If you type Tecfidera in the search box, you can access lots of past posts in case you need advice, but seems like it’s going well. All the best πŸ™‚

Hi ralee

I was diagnosed on day of lockdown so I as yet have had no communication with any ms nurse, my neurologist was very helpful but I really wish I could speak to someone, anyone.
I think I’ve had ms for at least 12 years.
I’m a 53 year old woman with 2 grown up daughters.
Supportive family but confused, and afraid.

Hi @ralee – welcome 😊. I was diagnosed this year too (have had symptoms since 2012) also from the south coast just up from Brighton!

Hey @lilpalooza 😊

South Coast neighbour lol. Aren’t we lucky with this weather 😎.

Have you started treatment, if so what did you go for?

Hi @ralee

Yes it’s been beautiful and a godsend as I have a little one so she gets to play outside! But the heat does play havoc with my symptoms unfortunately so a bit of a balancing act with how much time we spend outside!

Yes I’ve been on Brabio (and Gabapentin to manage my pain) since Feb. So far so good I think. Have you had any thoughts on treatment?

Hey @lilypalooza,

How old your little one, my boy is 7 months old 😊

It’s a shame the heat is affecting you, I’m fortunate at the moment that it doesn’t affect me but I’m not looking forward to when it does.

How are you finding the Brabio? I also take Gaberpentin.

I’m currently on my 6th week of Tecfidera, and all is ok so far. Had a few side effects but it a weird way they are tolerable knowing it’s self inflicted lol.

@ralee – she turned 2 in March just before lockdown! Total ball of energy and non stop on the go πŸ˜‚ but she keeps me distracted although sometimes my fatigue stops me doing as much as I’d like with her. You may not get fatigue if you’re lucky. I used to think I was just really lazy so used to push myself harder and made the whole cycle worse πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ 7 months – weaning?! So much fun watching their faces when they try new stuff 😊

Yeah it’s not been too bad, thankfully I have an auto injector because doing it manually is my idea of hell 😬 a couple of side effects but am managing those ok. Glad to hear tecfidera is working out for you, I know what you mean you forgive stuff you’d normally complain about pre dx!

@lilypalooza

2 years old, you got your hands full that’s for sure 🐡 . Weaning is going really well! He has taken to it like a duck to water. His face has been absolutely priceless lol.

The auto injector is the way forward 😎 I doubt I’d want to use a manual needle if it came to it lol.

Hey, welcome to shift & sorry you are having to deal with this too! I am also on the south coast! I am loving the hotter weather, my MS is always better. I normally crash & burn in September/October when my kids go back to school and then around christmas time. It’s a crazy thing this MS but I am still active, it doesn’t stop me from doing anything. Main symptoms are tiredness & pain and just general odd sensations! Last new flare up was October 2018, but scans show active MS so I am hoping to start ocrevus as soon as I can ☺️
