My gorgeous niece who will graduate as a doctor in the summer wrote this poem for my birthday...I wanted to share it with you all...I think all of us fighters deserve this.... I didn’t find my hero in a fairy tale book There was no knight, or princess, nor dragon nor cook She appeared from the real world like armour shining bright Filling earth and those around her with beauty strength and light She came to fight a villain that humans cannot see She keeps it all inside of her to protect her family She laughs and reads and sings to us, and smiles through her pain And despite the madness going on she still remains (half) sane Her attitude is determination each day she strives to succeed To defeat the monster hiding, to get better and exceed She lives this life each day, stepping forward to something new Her courageousness and motivation keeps on shining through No matter what life throws at her and despite all that seems unfair To her giving up is not an option, it is a quality so rare She is a survivor of life’s darkness and an inspiration to all Capable of everything and more, she will rise not fall There is just one thing I ask of her to promise that she’ll do To beat this thing, to keep the faith, and carry on being you She is loved by many, and admired by us all So please know I am here, even if it’s just a call
