MS Respite Holidays,Care home and Hotel

During a recent holiday break to Bournemouth my family and I discovered a fantastic solution to us all being able to holiday together stress free, I have MS at a fairly advanced stage which means that I have to be assisted with every aspect of day to day living IE washing, toileting, getting in and out of bed, dressing, eating and drinking. This as you can imagine places a great deal of pressure and stress on my nearest and dearest which would have equated to them not getting a well needed rest themselves or in my situation my wife not getting rested. Therefore my family booked our usual Bournemouth hotel and i booked into a local care home for respite care, in doing so all my needs were taken care of in the mornings and nights and I met up with my family during the days to go out and about, having a power wheelchair also meant I could come and go as I pleased making life even easier for me and the family. During my stay which was fantastic for all concerned I had discussions with the Care Homes Business Development Manager as to why such facilities as holiday respite for the disabled weren't more widely promoted by the Care Homes and Hotels accommodating such families as ourselves. Surely there is a business opportunity for both to promote such facilities in cooperation with each other to help families with disabled members enjoy holidays desperately needed by all without the day to day stresses that are involved in care. I have already booked again for two stays next year and can't wait. I now intend to peruse and propose these questions to holiday hotels and care homes in as many seaside resorts as i possibly can hopefully bringing an awareness to families with disabled members and to businesses out there just how much they can help each other in our communities. Anyone wishing to discuss this posting for more information can contact me at the Doncaster MS group, i hope this can enrich somebody’s life as much as it has mine. Regards Paul Griffiths

Hello @paulgriffiths, what a fantastic idea and a much-needed one, too. I guess it doesn’t have to apply to just seaside towns? Good luck with your quest x

Hi @PaulGriffiths Great idea. I went to Mitchelland Farm inCumbria and had a great week of respite. They gave me details of a carer who was great. See Lakedistrictdisabledholidays.clo.ukn
