Liver Damage

Hello MSers. I am so grateful for this website, sharing everyone's experiences is so valuable. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with relapsing remitting MS. Initially, I started on Beta Interferon's, Rebiff 44 injectables. However, I suffered with injection site reactions and bad side effects, from flu symptoms to severe headaches. A year later, my neurologist suggested Tuvigin, which is a generic of Gilenya. This is a daily dose of an capsule with no apparent side effects. I loved it! Lived a normal life, no visible side effects. After recent blood tests, my neurologists advised that I immediately stop with the Tuvigin as it has caused extensive liver damage. Currently, I am not on chronic meds, waiting for my liver to heal. My doctor advised that I should go back to the beta interferon's, which I'm not happy with. Injections were horrific and had a very adverse effect on my lifestyle. Please advise on alternative chronic meds which have limited side effects

@msk , I'm not sure which of the Disease Modifying Therapies (DMTs) are available to you in SA, but here is some detail about what is available in the UK :- https://support.mstrust.org.uk/file/DMD-Book-Final-WEB.pdf Hope it helps

@Jami

Hello :) I also have RRMS and was diagnosed in 2015. My neurologist recently suggested Ocrevus after I couldn't deal with the Tecfidera side effects any longer. I just received my first infusion dose (two separate dates) and it was a great experience. If it works, its a dream in my opinion. Though I felt down for a day or two after the infusion, beats feeling like crap daily! All the best!
