Just what I needed……. NOT

Hi all, I just need a moan: I had a biopsy done on a small lump on my leg, just before Xmas, the consultant Dermatologist phoned me 2.5 weeks ago and advised me that I needed Radiotherapy treatment to prevent it from spreading, told me I needed blood tests, I advised that I was getting my LFT work done the following morning, he ended the call to phone my GP, didn’t get through to him nor did he phone me back, I saw my GP the following week – who hadn’t heard from him by phone or mail – my GP gave me the number of his consulting rooms, I phoned – only to get the message that they were closed until 13/2/19, I phoned today and his secretary phoned me – after speaking with him – to advise that UHL would be writing to me with an appointment within 2 weeks.
I still don’t know officially what is wrong with me – putting 2 & 2 together ie Radiotherapy and stop spreading, I can only assume that it is cancer.
Sorry for the very long message.
As you can imagine – quite stressful, just what an MSer needs.
Thanks
Brendan

@z900 , your moan is entirely understandable.

In the UK, there are maximum waiting times for situations like this. Is there anything similar in Ireland?

Try not to let the situation stress you out. You’re doing what you can to progress the situation and stressing has no positives.

Good luck.

@z900
In Ireland to rush things up , always see your consultant private.

1) If there’s meds this can be medical card your consultant writes the prescription you take it to your GP he/she rewrite same script on their script pad handing you a script with same meds as what your consultant dictated on his written script for you.

2) Should the script be private you can claim a certain percentage from the health board the form to fill you get from your pharmacy.
(Don’t know what you’ve to spend to receive a refund)

3) Look up the revenue go to medications. Read the notes as the form for that sector should be there regarding meds refund.

I don’t know which avenue you have to take as I’ve typed out in the 3 methods above.

Hope you don’t think me presumptuous, but I’ve been there with family members & indeed myself, I hadn’t a clue either in the beginning.

Consultants are very much aware we see them privately then all else can be public i.e bed if necessary etc. The point is your consultant will organise all whichever route you need to take.

Best of luck

@jane_watts
No problem with cost for the Gilenya as it is free under the LTI (long term illness) scheme which includes MS.
Paying to see the Consultant was not the problem….. NOT getting an answer was the problem.

@z900
But we pay em for the answers 🙄
Although I’m not too sure they have the answers 🤔
They’re good here with suggesting which med they feel would suit their patient hats off to them there. 😊

They don’t give answers over the phone
