It’s a 4 letter word

I am fed up with it.
In response to a typical Scottish greeting of “how are you” (not in a Joey way) you are supposed to reply with “fine” and I am fed up saying that. It’s now a 4 letter word beginning with F.
Folk don’t want to hear of my struggles with MS they want to hear “fine” and I am not nor ever will be !
The 4 letter word is being replaced with “managing” which makes getting some managing sandpaper difficult

Pull up a sandbag…. where would you like me to start?🙄

@watsoncraig , anyone who asks, “How are you?” does not want a negative answer. That goes for everybody that is asked!

I respond, “that I’ve been better, I just can’t remember when!”

Treat it as an opening gambit, like saying hello, air-kissing or shaking hands. Nothing more than that!

@stumbler
What is this thing called air-kissing…..
Is that a French thing? It’s all double Dutch to me 🤔

Some days I am having visible and obvious challenges…so just saying “fine” would be an obvious lie and even saying it out of the side of my mouth would a satirical sneer wouldn’t quite cut it ;-> Then I say “I’ve had better days” or if I know the person I am responding too well enough to know they also have their own issues I say “every day has it’s own challenges”.

This acknowledges that everyone has their own demon to battle. Mine may be visible on some days and well hidden the next…I find that with others as well no matter the breed or brand of their demon.

It just becomes an auto response. I know people don’t really want to know how I am, and I don’t want to vent my problems when others are going through stuff. But the best response I ever got from that answer was from a couple of colleagues who then said “now how are you really”. That made my day.

@highlander

I know u know this……

It’s where ppl go to peck ur cheek but miss kissing the air ….. Deliberately on purpose 😁🤣

Instead of ‘fine’, use ‘grrrraaand’, rolling ones ‘R’, extenuating the ‘A’, frightfully awfully in accent, observe the others face of blankness….🤣

I got sick of ‘fine’, as they don’t want to know truth be known….. Nor do they care so why ask ?🤔🤣 Nor do they wish to be educated in such matters of the insufferable symptoms we all live with, just getting on doing our best @watsoncraig 🙄🤣

@stumbler

Damn good answer, I’m borrowing that one plz, thank you. 🤔🤣

@itsmewithms I am stealing the “had better days”

@stumbler that’s one of my pet hates, very similar to the over use of the word “like”

@highlander that might be a bit extreme

@watsoncraig are people really bothered about our health or is it they feel Guilty as they just haven’t bothered to ASK before until we come across them in the street. And they say” YOU LOOK WELL” Then what do we do lie, lie, lie, because the other option is tell the truth, well seeing is, I haven’t seen you in ages, and i have had all my independence taken away from me and i’m not going to get any better, and I walk or stumble like i’m pissed but don’t drink anymore. DO YOU WANT ME TO CONTINUE. It’s easier to say i’m fine.
