Is there hope?

There is a really interesting article on p2 of today’s “Guardian” newspaper. A Cambridge University team, working with Australian researchers have been using Metformin, a diabetes drug on rats who had myelin stripped from nerves in their brains. Those treated with Metformin had a near-complete recovery of the damaged myelin. The MS Society funded the study. A new class nical trial, with MS patients, is planned for next year. Let’s think positive thoughts. Jon

@wjgregg I've just read that. “It’s always a leap in the dark when you go from lab experiments to humans, but the data is as strong and as compelling as it is ever likely to get,” sounds good to me! I'm 19 years in and think I'm transitioning to SPMS so this is really good news for me.

Thanks for forwarding. Heading into SPMS from RRMS so very interested. I had a hip replacement two years ago and still struggle with full recovery. A Dr friend of mine with lupus had a hip replacement and is having sciatica nerve issues. My issue is with the LFCN but it is interesting she found articles that her recovery is hampered by a thin myelin sheath. We know that we also battle our darn myelin. As a Dr she can get into research and articles that we can't so is pushing on this research. I will forward this to her...agreed- very hopeful they are on to something! thanks!
