I want a baby

Hi all. I need help from the hive mind. I want to have a baby. However I'm aware that as I am currently on Orecluzimab (Ocrevus) and very very single... so to describe this as an uphill struggle is an understatement. So, what next? I have started looking at IUI treatment and how to find a sperm donor. I also know that it's not safe to get pregnant on my MS drugs. So! Questions... Anyone ladies had babies via donor sperm and been through IUI or IVF? And anyone know the deal with pregnancy aiding drugs and MS. And anyone had a baby while on Ocrevus? How long do you have to wash out for? And finally, how do I get my MS team to speak to my GP so I can test out how fertile or infertile I am and get a plan together between them. Any help? Advice or general cheering on will of course be appreciated. And I will tell you how it goes! Gemma xx

If you want to check your fertility talk to your GP or OB. However, before you do this, think through who will care for the child if you have a relapse and are unable to do so. A baby is a very needy helpless human being. You can care for children with MS (I have three) but you need a back up for when you’re not feeling well. This is for both you and the child. Good luck!

@slinkygem, I know what I write won’t be what you expected. You’re planning to create a human being. Which you will have on loan as a baby then as a child, a teenager and finally as an adult by which time they will have a life of their own. It’s not easy on your own to bring up a human being to adulthood and I know because, apart from the first 12 years when I was married, I did just that myself. Wanting a baby is normal but it should be for the right reasons. A baby doesn’t ask to be born. So think carefully: you have MS which in itself doesn’t preclude you from being pregnant but it does mean your child has to be able to cope with a mother who might not be so able bodied eventually. My own daughter worries about me a hell of a lot. If you do go ahead with your plan, of course I wish you all the very best. I’m just saying it as it is.........devils advocate. xx
