I am new to Shift.

Hi, I was searching is depression a sign of a new MS attack and found your community. My son has MS. We found out about a year ago. He is due for his 3rd infusion of Ocrevus. In a couple of weeks. I've recently noticed he has been extremely tired, sleeping way to much and for the past week or more he is just off, not himself. He seems withdrawn and I believe he is depressed. Mood changes.... Can this be a sign of an attack? I know my son and he is just off. I feel so angry inside. Why my son? My only child. My perfect boy. Everyday I wish I could take his MS inside myself.

It may not mean he is depressed. Sleeping more than usual could certainly indicate a relapse as fatigue in one of the most common symptoms of MS and affects a lot of people with the disease significantly. Although it doesn’t necessarily indicate a relapse, it could be triggered by a number of things. Depression is linked with MS, however it’s more the diagnosis and it’s struggles that cause the depression. The best thing to do is talk to him and make sure he knows he’s not alone and just keep a close eye on him. MS is a terrible disease but things are a lot better than they were years ago, this is not a death sentence particularly for those with RRMS. Sending love to both you and your son, I hope thinks look up soon.

also just to add it may be a good idea to introduce your son to this site as it can be very helpful and provide him with a lot of support from people his age that understand fully what he is going through
