Holidays with MS

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has tips, advice and stories about holiday with MS?

I am currently saving up (with what I can) for a holiday somewhere hot. But I don’t want to travel alone cause I never been anywhere. Plus this past year am nervous to walk somewhere different where no one knows me or help me if you know what I mean.

I have also been think working abroad for a few months then come home. Just to avoid the cold cause that triggers my MS

Remember heat can also trigger symptoms for some people especially fatigue 😉 have you checked if we have forum members close to any of your target areas? even if you don’t meet them personally they may have good recommendations for Drs and supporting services. I’m in WI USA…I guarantee that won’t be on your list ;-0

@sarah_graham , travelling with MS makes preparation even more important. It’s comforting to consider all the problems that you may encounter and how you will manage them.

There’s some useful advice here :-

My advice is that every woman should travel alone at some point in their life, yes it’s daunting when you don’t know the area but Google maps is brilliant for getting around. I found planning where I wanted to go helped to. I’ve been to Rome and Paris by myself and loved it! I’m not heat sensitive so I don’t worry about that, I crave the ☀ and the warmth to feel better. As long as you can get around at your own pace then go for it!
Life is so very short so if you get the opportunity then do it! 😊

Personally I think its incredibly brave doing that on your own. It can be daunting yet so very much rewarding too.
I travel with my work and personal life and do not let MS get in the way of anything. If I have to, I just work around it, it will not control me, but I shall be aware, that’s all, well that’s just me.
I’m going to Budapest next weekend for a visit, it is a great city and certainly worthy of a break.
All the best for your adventures, onwards and upwards!

It’s nice to hear a positive vibe with regards to MS, I decided that I was gonna carry on as normal when I was diagnosed. I rest when needed and then carry on with things. Travelling alone would’ve seemed less daunting had I done it when I was younger but it was the best thing I ever did. You can just do things at your own pace and see the things you want to see 😊. @sarah_graham Please don’t write the idea off doing it by yourself, it’s a huge achievement once you’ve done it and you’ll get the travel bug after that 😊. NYC is my next goal but it will be a while . Good luck with whatever you do, there’s a whole world out there to find 😊.

I’ve been travelling with MS for about 12 years. It will depend on what type of meds you are on. First things first – get a Doctors letter saying you are undergoing treatment for MS and you are on xyz meds. Remove any label (Biohazard sybmol on needle cutters etc) that eagle eyed customs dudes/dudettes will spot. “Typically” grab a swag of meds for your length of stay so you don’t run short and have to ration. Occassionally – it is the Hot + Humid weather that may cause you difficulty (think Tropics). Other that – drink water, wear a cool scarf\tie if you have to and generally go about your hols!
