Holiday Cottage

Just returned from holiday cottage rented by extended family so we can all be together at Christmas. It cost a fortune and was lovely but to me it just felt really hard work. The floors were all wooden and were terribly slippy. Even with brakes on, my walker and wheelchair would both move and I couldn't get in the shower in my ensuite because it involved a step up. There were also wooden, slippy stairs up from my lower ground floor bedroom to the living room and more stairs to the games room. I felt there was no point in me going away anywhere unless it was a specific disabled place that no one else in the family would want. It felt like another door was closing on me and I would never be able to do anything like that again. I feel like crying. Any ideas about going away with non disabled people and finding somewhere that suits everyone? Thanks

@gerbil , it would be a shame to exclude you, but your extended family need to be aware of your limitations. It will therefore be their decisions whether you are excluded, not yours. There are various internet sites that can be considered, bearing your requirements in mind, e.g. :- https://www.enableholidays.com/ https://www.disabledholidays.com/ https://www.disabledaccessholidays.com/

@gerbil, that’s such a shame that despite the best intentions, no one had the foresight to think of such things in advance 😕 As @stumbler says though, our limitations do not have to be a barrier. My local MS group have found a holiday location/centre which manages to get wheelchair users hooked up to zip wires, so all things are possible! As far as holiday cottages etc, it doesn’t take much to adjust plans to ensure all needs can be met. Chalk this one down to experience, and don’t let it put you off going again. Hope you enjoyed Christmas, despite the challenges 😊
