Headaches & MS

Hi, I was diagnosed in September last year spent (had a 5 day course of IV cortisone) and have been on Rebif since October. I had a flare in mid May this year and had another 5 days of IV cortisone. The MRI in May showed more lesions in my brain and 2 extra on my spine. So I have to go back in December for another MRI to see if I have developed any more lesions, if I do then I will have to go onto second line meds. When I first started the Rebif I struggled with terrible headaches but the got better and I had not had in a while. However the last 2 weeks the headaches have come back with vengeance. I'm not even sure what to do honestly??? Does anyone else struggle with headaches? Do you think its the Rebif or is it the MS? I wold really appreciate some insight?

Hi @melanie_augustyn. A prescription of amitriptyline might help. I have suffered headaches long before my diagnosis. This medication is actually an antidepressant with the bi-product of being great for headaches. When I was diagnosed I went back on it again and I must say, it gives me a great night's sleep. Let your MS nurse (if you have one) know if there are any changed to your normal pattern. All the best!

I hated Rebif It made me do severely depressed and also caused headaches. But each persons different. I love Avonex. I have been lucky on it and have not developed very many lesions over my 22 years of having MS. things like essential oils of peppermint and lavender help with headaches. Diluted in coconut or almond oil and rub on the forehead back of the neck and temples. Also ice packs. Hope that helps
