Have you re-trained for a new career?

Hi all, I’m looking for some inspiration – I think I need to change career to something that’s more suited to a slower pace of life and a bit less demanding (I’m a digital product manager – which is kind of like a project manager, quite fast paced and demanding).

Has anyone retrained to do something new post-MS? I’d love to hear what you did and how it worked out.

Thanks!

@omega-female , you must have made a few contacts in your career to date. Would one of these consider employing you in a less demanding role, where working from home is possible?

Thanks @stumbler, I already work from home! I do a quite mentally demanding job in a complex environment and any of the contacts I have are just going to be recruiting to the same kind of thing, in the same environment.

I think I need a total change of direction in my career, hence retraining

@omega-female the best advice I ever got was to get a job with the Govt. They are very disabled friendly

@omega-female My mate with MS woks for the mi-ni-stry of de-fen-ce and he is bloody loving it. Gets loads of support, gets upto 25 days to have a “community/ charity” assistance days and as he has MS gets loads of time to recover from relapses and generally take it easy.
I agree that the government/ NHS do look after people but in the private sector we all seem to fall by a bunch of corporate thugs/ arseholes. (most of the time in my experience)

I would love to retrain or start my own business but I need to find my niche (apart from wine) and start something up.
I know a few well off people who have successfully built their own businesses and are that successful that they moan about having to pay so much tax. One thing I’ve never understood is why they don’t employ me as a tax write off and kill two birds with one stone.
I’m thinking of becoming a Gigalo but not sure if I would get much business nowadays.
