Genetic link or coincidence?
I was diagnosed in 2011. I have a cousin 10 years older than me who had been diagnosed at a younger age. Another family member, daughter of another cousin, has since also been diagnosed. We all hail from the same paternal grandmother but live in different parts of the UK & have different surnames. I am wondering which studies might be looking for genetic links. I have been told different things by different medics & suspect there are holes in data gathered. Anyone able to point us toward genetic studies?
Hi @linda_faith_paganuzzi, I have had different answers from different medics I have seen ranging from 'no inherited risk' to '5%-8%' chance of having MS if one parent had it. My brother & I are the only ones in the immediate family with it. The last time I looked there was some evidence for an inherited risk of developing it - that was 4 or 5 yrs ago, sorry I forget the source.
