Gabapentin

Hey just looking for some advice am really struggling with pain at the moment it’s keeping me awake at nite 😢 Had some crazy dizzy spells the last couple of days and tried to call dr today to get an appointment and they are shut 🙄 Neuro said to increase the gabapentin and see if that helps am on 900mg three times a day and it’s not helping I can’t remember what she said to increase it to 🙈 She suggested maybe changing it to amitripline if the higher dose doesn’t help said that to dr and she wouldn’t change it without a letter from neuro Called neuro secretary and they said am on the list and could be 12 weeks ffs !!! Am sorry for ranting just feeling fobbed off this constant pain is getting me down Xx

Hi- I currently take Gralise which is an extended release version of this drug. I feel it has a more even delivery for me and is just taken once a day a few hours before bed. I felt that Gabapentin delivery was uneven and felt my blood pressure was up whenever it was checked (usually 120/72 and was always in the 150's/80's). I worked up to 3 (300's) of Gabapentin a day and it sounds like people in this forum (search Gabapentin using the magnifying glass in the upper left) and was told I could take twice as much if it helped but also got advice that any more than 1800 (I think) wasn't found to be effective. Initially when taking it I would get drowsy so that is why they recommend not taking it and then driving or operating equipment. Now after being on it - and switching to Gralise taken in the evening after I am done running around for the day - I don't notice it as much. My neuro was reluctant to prescribe me gralise as "it isn't an MS drug" ;-0 but I feel it helps me manage the symptoms and that is a big part of our battle. I have also been started on Ocrevus and just took the second half of the first dose last week.

@Stumbler

@niteowl , can you not enlist the help of your MS Nurse to instruct your Doctor? Amitriptyline may be a good call to help you get a good night's sleep. Just don't take it later than 12 hours before you intend to get up the next day.
