DMTs

I have appointment with MS nurse tomorrow. I feel really good really strong n able. MRI done 6 weeks ago showed lesions on brainstem and cerebellum. Neurologist suggests DMD. I had a relapse in December so assumed that explained the lesions. I don't know what to do. My fitness level is good, I am not in any pain. As a rule I wouldn't want to take medication unless I could feel it is necessary

@zoe_summers , to adopt a DMD or not is your decision to make, but listen to the MS Nurse before you make it. They will respect your choice, although you will be able to review that choice if you change your mind in the future.

Whatever you do is your choice - you can choose to do something now and then change yours mind in the future if you want to. Just because you do not want a DMT now does not rule you out for something in the future. There are a couple of things to bear in mind (and I’m not a medical professional) - the medicines do not all have terrible side effects and will not make you feel worse than you do now necessarily. If you’re a healthy person, and you eat well and you exercise then you may very well feel the same even on medication. I don’t think my meds make me feel worse. I take tysabri and I don’t think that has any notable side effects for me on a day to day basis. The disease modifying therapies also limit damage to your brain and slow down progression. Some of their benefit is unseen. You may not be having relapses even if you don’t have any treatment but some damage can still be being done. I am not necessarily pro medicine and I have friends that have medicine and those that don’t... some of my friends manage their ms through exercise and diet alone. I just think it’s useful to know some of the additional facts. :-) Whatever you decide to do - your nurses and neurologist will support you and will help you make the choice for you. Xx
