DMD decisions

I get to see my consultant for the first time since diagnosis on Wednesday. It's to discuss which DMD I want to start. My MS nurse very kindly sent me all the DVD's about the 4 I could choose from and I seemed to settle on Avonex. This was mainly due to the fact it's only once a week. HOWEVER, now the appointment's getting closer and I've been reading posts on here about the horrendous side effects I feel I'm back at square one...I've been on the msdecisions website and Avonex seemed to come out on top but I'm concerned about the side effects, including the potential liver problems. How did you come to your decision? And what are people's experience with Avonex? Thanks!! Ophelia x

Hi Ophelia, Ive been on Avonex for the past 3yrs I inject about 21:00 on a Sunday night at 22:00 I take 2 Paracetemol and 2 Ibruprofen I find the Flu symptoms dont effect me unless i forget the tablets and the next day i feel fine. In the past i struggled with stabbing myself but you can get over this barrier if you put it into this context 'if i dont do this I could get worse faster, and f"*& that!!!

i liked avonex - no horrendous side effects after the first injection - the first one i found was the worst but as long as i took ibuprofen 1/2 hr before and 4 hrs after injection i was fine - i injected @ 6pm on an evening when i wasn't at work the next day. Don't be put off by side effects as they don't happen to everyone and if they do occur you find that they may lessen the longer you are on treatment and you get so used to it, it becomes second nature. good luck - let us know how u get on :-)
